My lil' ol Grandma

You've seen on here before some of the things my Grandma Ruthie has said. She once said Papa was good in bed, she's told us of them taking showers together, and so on and so forth. These are things you most definitely don't want to hear coming out of your grandmother's mouth. Well, I believe I seen/heard it all now. My cousin Paige is pretty well endowed, if you know what I mean. She put her heels back on the other night, and Grandma said "Look Paige, I come up to your breasts now". Then she proceeds to motorboat them.....yes, you read that right. My 80 year old grandma is digging her head in my cousin's cleavage. What in the world? So I ask her if she seriously just motorboated Paige's cleavage, and she said "yea, that's bad, huh?" Oh my....I'm still shaking my head over that one. And she done this in front of Kevin, my dad and my cousin Zach. I believe we all had to take a hit off the oxygen mask because we were laughing so hard. These lil' ol people are not always so innocent. :)

Coby

We have a new member of the family. His name is Coby Tide Dunn, and he was born on October 18th. We adopted him on December 16th. He is black, with a little bit of white on his chest and paws. He is hyper, he bites my hair, and he sleeps on his back. Kinda sounds like Kevin....
Coby is such a sweetie. He lets the kids tote him around all the time, throw his toys all over the house, and let Avery hold him in a headlock.....all without wimpering. I think she may have actually tossed him around like a sack of taters the other night in the playroom....he did run crying to Kevin, but he was OK. I have to admit....I was a little worried.
"Kevin, is he OK? Is he breathing? Is he moving? Kevin, I don't know doggie CPR. What if he's paralyzed?" He just kept laying there, but apparently he made it. Probably just scared the little fella. God love him, he has many more days like that ahead of him living in the Dunn house.
Kevin treats him like a human. He calls him "pecious", that would be "precious" without the letter r. Keep in mind that's what he called all 3 of our kids when they were babies. He has Coby spoiled rotten already. And he never does wrong. Never mind the fact that I have nearly fallen and broken my neck at least 3 times because I have tripped over him, because he likes to walk in between your legs when you're walking. Somehow or another, that was all my fault.
Oh, and guess what, Kevin just walked in the door and the dog beat the kids to welcome him home. :) And he picked Coby right up and asked him how his day was. "Well dad, I ate a little bit. Then I went out and peed and pooped. Then I laid around a little bit. I scratched my ear. Slept. Whined. I ate a little more. Took a cat nap. Then got up and peed again. I let Avery drag me around a few times. I chewed on that stupid red dog that the human brothers call Clifford. Oh, and then, get this...I licked my tail. Now where's my kiss?"
Anywho, I've put some pics below. Hope you enjoy....

It's hard to see him, but he is so sweet and cute.

And here's Avery holding him in a head lock.

Potty Mouth

If you have kids, you know what I mean when I say you never know what's gonna come out of your kid's mouths. And you always fear the worse.
Once again, Brody did not disappoint. He and I are riding home from shopping one day, and a song we had never heard came on the radio. And just as pretty as you please, Brody says "What the hell is this song?" After I compose myself, I explain to Brody that "hell", used in that context, is a bad word. But since he didn't know that, I would let him slide this time. However, if he says it again, he will be punished. He's fine with that.
Fast forward 2 days, and we are sitting in a restaurant in Nashville with the Reed family. The food was a little slow coming out, and Brody is my impatient one. So he proceeds to ask "where the hell is my food?" Cierra and I both react at the same time and ask him what he just said. He tells us, and his daddy calls him over to where he's sitting. I can tell this is NOT going to be good. He gets a whipping in front of everyone. No need to waste the time to take him to the bathroom. He promises to never say it again.
Not even an hour later, we are trying to get in the Opryland entrance. It's not working out so well, so we decide to ride down the street to turn around and go in the other way. So we make our way down the street, and guess what...."Where the hell are we going?" comes blaring from the back seat???? Kevin and I just turn and look at each other and shake our heads. We tell Brody he has to get a mark on "the board". (The board is a punishment thing we have at home to keep up with their misbehavior).
Anyway, long story short....I am disappointed in Brody for the continued use of that word. Especially since we honestly do try not to curse in front of the kids.... But I'm hoping he has learned from all the trouble he has gotten into for it. It could always be worse....he could be cussing out every person he comes in contact with. I always try to find the bright side in things. :)

Aaahhhhhh......

We took the Lord's Supper this past Sunday at church. It is a very important and meaningful experience that should not ever be taken lightly.

The bread is passed out, and all members of my family take and eat it without any misfortunes. Next, it's time for the passing of the cup....grape juice. They are all passed out, and luckily Kevin helped Brody get his off the tray and set it inside the litte holder that's on the back of the pew in front of us. Good job, dad! There's no way Brody could have held it for the 3-4 minutes it takes for all the cups to be passed out before he could drink his. It would have been on the floor, on the pew in front of us, on my white sweater, the list goes on and on..... Bro. Ray tells us to take and drink, so we do.....and lo and behold, all I hear is a loud "Aaaaahhhhhhhhh". I'll give you one guess as to who that was....yep, it was Brody. Apparently, the grape juice was VERY good. :) I had to chuckle, as did some of the others that were sitting around us. I couldn't believe it, but at the same time, it was so innocent. And it made me realize that maybe we should all feel that good about taking the Lord's Supper.

Until next time.....

The heart of a child

It's an every day occurrence that my boys fight. Well, when I picked them up at daycare today, it was no different. They are in the back seat arguing and hitting, and I'm driving trying to referee. I finally lose my cool, and in all my infinite wisdom I threaten to call Santa and tell him that he is to take 2 toys off their list. Well, my little smarty britches Brody asks "What's Santa's phone number?" Are you kidding me? Why couldn't he just break out into terrible sobs like he's supposed to? It would have been easier to handle cause that's what I was expecting. But nooooo..... So I decide to ignore the question. That didn't work....

"MOMMA, WHAT IS SANTA'S PHONE NUMBER?" Can't he just be quite? I come up with a quick answer that all momma's and daddy's get the secret phone number when their babies are born. That way, they will always have it. He seemed to accept that. Just when I thought all was good in the Dunn world, I hear Walker sniffling and crying. "Son, what's wrong?" And he says, "Momma, I don't think Santa should bring any of my toys cause we are always mean to each other." OMG....how sweet is that???? I start patting myself on the back thinking I have done a good job teaching my children the concept of gift receiving as being a privilege, not a right. I begin to mentally write my acceptance speech for the "Best Mother of the Year" award when all of the sudden my dear Brody chimes in with "Not me, I want Santa to bring me ALL of my toys!!!" Of course you do son.....thanks for bringing me back to reality.

For a split second, I was feeling good about my parenting skills. And as always, my middle child Brody reminds me that I have a lot of work to do! :) You know, you always hear about the "middle child" syndrome.....well folks, let me tell you, it's TRUE!!!! He is his own breed, he's one of a kind, but I absolutely love him just the way he is. :)

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is coming up....it'll be here in 3 days. Thought I would use this post to list some of the things I am thankful for....

I am thankful.....

1. that God has saved me from my sins!
2. for the times that Kevin is getting on my nerves....cause that means he is at home with me and not out with some other woman!
3. for the screaming and arguing I hear from Walker and Brody cause that means I have 2 healthy boys.
4. for the whining that Avery does cause it means God has blessed me with a beautiful healthy girl.
5. that I'm still here at work at 6:41p.m. cause that means I have a job when many people out there don't.
6. for my bills. I would have nothing if I didn't have bills.
7. that I have to pick up my house most every night cause that means I'm lucky enough to own one.
8. for my headache....cause that means I have overworked my intelligent brain (haha....had to throw that one in there)
9. for my friends....they pick me up on bad days and laugh with me on good ones.
10. for my mom and Mike....they are awesome grandparents to my babies.
11. for this fan in my office cause it is hot as blazes in here.
12. that I have to pay an arm and a leg for gas cause that means I have a vehicle to drive.
13. for the lunches I have with all my friends....nothing like catching up on their lives!
14. for my digital camera....it captures so many things that I have forgotten!
15. that we have re-election in 3 years.
16. that Kevin and I have taken on teaching a Sunday School class. It blesses us more than I could have ever imagined.
17. for my co-workers....they make the days go by much faster.
18. for #3 on the lunch menu at Rosie's.
19. that Dr. William Allison gave me high school boobs again! :)
20. for vasectomies!
21. for Keith Urban.....(that's for you Tiff)
22. for that big ol' nurse who practically saved my life after Avery was born!
23. for pickles.
24. for Facebook.
25. for our soldiers and their families

The list could go on and on, but I am most thankful for God sending his son, my husband and my babies. My life is truly blessed!

More from my Shakespeare....

Here's another piece of literature from my wonderful 8 year old!

"I help my dad. He had surgery on his knee. He will tell me what to do. I will do it. I will get him clean next every 10 seconds."

Just so you know....clean next is Kleenex! LOL!

Stuff....

This post is devoted to some snipits from the Dunn's:

Kevin:
1. Still recovering from ACL surgery.
2. I must say he doesn't complain too much about it.
3. Seeing him try to teach Brody how to sound out words was one for the making....like the blind leading the blind.
4. I'm not being mean....this is the guy who says the word idiot like it's spelled ediot. Even Brody thinks it starts with an E.

Ginger:
1. I'm boring....

Walker:
1. Only one more game and football is over for the season! Can I get a WOO HOO???!!!
2. He had a beautiful interception at his game Saturday....only to wipe it out by fumbling at the end of the play.
3. I just discovered he can do a one arm push-up. He decided to show out in front of my SS teacher and his wife the other night by doing it.
4. Still doesn't think about girls too highly....that'll change one day. Or at least I pray that it changes! :)
5. He really is a smart kid....but that 81 and 75 he brought home today just pisses me off. Yes, I have high expectations. He can do it, and he proved it by having no less than a 94 average to date on this 9 weeks. Now he wants to blow those A's with these grades.

Brody:
1. Recovering from the swine flu.
2. Hasn't run a fever since Saturday, but we got a call from the school this morning saying to come get him. Seems he fell asleep before 8:30 this morning. That a boy!
3. Oh, and his head hurt. But apparently not enough to keep him from wanting to play his DS.
4. He still LOVES the girls....now only if they would love him back. :)

Avery:
1. Walks around the house all the time doing cheers. Does she not realize that I don't like cheering....I was a majorette for crying out loud!
2. She got caught looking down a boy's pants at school the other day.
3. And he was returning the favor....
4. She called me stupid tonight. Yea, that went over like a lead balloon.

Max:
1. Still barking and getting on my nerves. But he is a good dog.

Fish 1, 2 and 3:
1. Still swimming....and unfortunately still alive.

Well, that's about all I have for now. Until next time...

You gotta love anesthesia

Kevin had surgery on his knee yesterday. They replaced his ACL with a cadaver ACL (could have gone without knowing that) and then repaired another cartilage that was torn. Thankfully, his meniscus was not torn like originally thought. Surgery went well. It went by pretty fast because I was entertained the whole time by my preacher and youth minister. I must confess that I learned more about both of them in those 3 hours than I ever thought I would know. We talked about everything from church, to flag football, to a football player kicking his prosthetic leg off to make a play, to Adam's ability to multi-task (inside joke). I am truly grateful to these men for their time spent with me and their true concern in Kevin's well-being.
Now, on to post-op. They get him moved to a room, and the first thing I notice when I walk in is a bandage on his hand. That wasn't there before....well, apparently Mohammed Ali does not react well to anesthesia. They said he woke up swinging and cut his hand on something. Nice....
And then it took all of 13 seconds for me to realize the nurse tech assigned to our room was not the brightest bulb in the pack. Precious and sweet, but not real nurse savvy, if I'm being completely honest. And a talker....she and Kevin (on anesthesia) hit it off!!! I sat there in amazement listening to them chat back and forth, and I am almost certain my eyes were glazed over in a matter of minutes. She finally decided to leave and find someone who could help her with the vitals machine....this after spending a good 10 minutes trying to open up one of those sterile thermometer covers. It was all I could do not to take it out of her hand and open it myself. Enough about Ms. Sunshine...

Disclaimer: There is a choice word or two that follows, so you may want to skip this part where you won't be offended.
You never know how someone will react to anesthesia, and I must say I was not disappointed this time. Kevin was slurring his speech, talking to himself (seriously) and just making random statements about whatever. Well, he decided he needed to pee. Sunshine is back in the room at this time, and she gives us one of those plastic urinals. She leaves, so Kevin and I proceed as to what is the best way to go about making this happen. He decides to sit up on the side of bed and try it. So here he is, sitting in a most awkward decision because he can't get his leg completely straightened out, trying to pee into this urinal. And there I am, just standing there staring. Why, I don't know. I guess I expected something exciting to happen. But after about 3 minutes of no action, Kevin tells me, in his best slurred speech, that I have got to go on and quit looking. So I move to the other side of the room. Another 3 minutes later....nothing. "Kevin, are you sure you gotta go". "Well, I think my pecker is scared of this thing". I just dropped into the chair....I was laughing so hard because he was so serious and that anesthesia was really working on him. It just makes me realize that I can only imagine what he told those nurses in the OR. God love their hearts.... And then the talk of peeing led right into the "other". He said "If I have to go, you're probably gonna have to wipe my a$$". Yea, that's not gonna happen. That little red button is for the nurse. Use it.

I went home for a little while and then came back to stay with Kevin overnight. He was getting lots of fluid, so that meant he was needing to pee a lot. The first 4 times he woke me in the middle of the night, I was pleasant and got the urinal for him and then took it back to the bathroom for measuring. But by the 5th or 6th time, I was ready to do one of two things....cut it off or get him a lifetime supply of Depends. But the loving wife side of me crawled out of the so-called "bed", which was more like a torture chamber table, and repeated the "peeing process" again. I honestly can't tell you how happy I am that we no longer have a plastic urinal that we must use.

I love my husband dearly. And I have and will take care of him. But I do have to laugh at some of it to make it more manageable! :)

Walker Shakespeare

I never knew Walker had such excellent writing skills!!!! LOL!!! Here are a few excerpts from his writings at school the last week. Enjoy!!!

Frankenstein:

"If I saw him, I would ceal him" (kill him)
"He ate a washing machine" (apparently this Frankenstein has a spin cycle)
"His head smells like a garbechen can" (garbage....but he ought to smell good seeing as how he ate that washing machine)
"He has a bun" (hmmm, I wonder if this Frankenstein is a woman in a man's body?)

Football:

"Me and Tucker play football"
"I am fast" (compared to some, I guess he is)
"We are fantactect" (fantastic....so fantastic in fact that we have a 1-4 record)

The Plate:

"I help my mom clean the plate with a sponge"
"It was fun" (yea, that won't last long)
"I was in the house of Michael Jaxons kitchen" (well, I can promise you that is somewhere I would never be....at least Walker has an imagination)

Why do I blog?

Back when I first decided to blog, I remember thinking to myself that I'm not sure why I want to. Well, a year or so later, that still hasn't changed. I don't know why I do it???
I typically don't have anything interesting to say. I tell stories from my everyday life, I ask for prayers requests, I rant and rave a little bit.... I figured only 5-6 people read it on a normal basis. But I recently discovered that more people read it than I thought (shout out to Angie and Sandie). I have added it to my Facebook profile, so now more people read it than I probably want them to. ha
I even had one friend say that he thought it was some professional journalist writing some of my stories until he saw my name posted at the bottom. He concluded that Mrs. Holt (my old English teacher) taught me well. I have come to the conclusion that he must be inebriated when he reads my stories! :) Just kidding Stephen.... Thanks for the compliment!
See, I have no idea what to write now. I am not creative, I don't really have anything to say today....so I guess I will wrap it up. Until the next time I find a reason to blog....

Just like that....

Most of us breeze through life and don't think twice about things. Then there are those of us who worry about everything....from the color of the paint on our walls down to the color of the roots of our hair. I am usually guilty of the latter, but my husband has taught me, or shall I say tried to teach me, that I can't worry about things. And I have come around to that concept pretty well in the last few years. Until someone close to me has a life changing experience....then I revert back to my old ways. My dear co-worker, Vikki, found out yesterday that her 2 year old son has Wilm's tumor, a cancerous tumor on one of his kidneys. Just like that, she has gone from living a normal, every day life, to fighting for her son, cause he is about to take on perhaps the biggest fight of his life. I don't have words of wisdom for her. All I have is the power to pray for her, her family, and the doctors and nurses who will take care of little Nathan. I have always admired Vikki for her strength and super mom powers! :) And I'm sure I won't be disappointed in her in this battle. I dedicate this post to Vikki...you are awesome and courageous. I know your faith in God will be your comfort. You are a pillar of strength, and that encourages me....just like that.

You are NOT going to wear that...

I take Walker to Party City today to try to find a costume. He quickly decided what he wanted, and while we are waiting for them to bring it out, I start people watching. I LOVE to people watch. Well, today was no disappointment.
I see teenage girls picking out the sexiest costumes they can find. I'm talking low-cut, short skirt, fish net wearing costumes.....nurses, police women, Heidi the whore from Sweden (pardon my language), sailors, etc... I was once that age, but not once do I remember wanting to dress like a hooker from Brooklyn. Where are the parents of these girls?
And then, the icing on the cake, the cherry on top, the cream of the crop....seeing two-ton Tina pick out a sexy pirate costume. PLEASE tell me you're buying that for your sister, or even your 16 year old daughter in this case. I cannot fathom seeing her trying to squeeze into this costume. All that came to mind was seeing the dough squeeze out of a can of biscuits when you're about to open it up. You know what I'm talking about....you just popped it open with the spoon and the dough is poking out? Yea, that's what I saw when I looked at her. And her "I ain't never been nowhere" redneck husband was beaming with pride at her selection. Hey buddy, you gonna pimp her out tonight to get enough dough (oh, there's that vision again) to buy you a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon? I honestly try not to make fun of people or talk about them, cause let's face it, I am no Miss America. But seriously....

9 years

Today is mine and Kevin's 9th anniversary. It has been a road of mostly ups, thank goodness. We hit our little pot holes every now and then, but I honestly can't imagine a life without him. I am thankful every day that God has put him in my life and that he is such a good daddy to our 3 kids.
He took me out to lunch today. And while we were gone, he told me that he has made plans for us to stay at the Westin at Bridge Street this weekend. We'll have dinner and go to a movie. Can I tell you how long it's been since we've been on a date? Well, I don't remember or I would tell you. It's been that long...
But anyway, thank you God for Kevin.

THAT time of the month....

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. But I have to ask....WHY make us women suffer "the curse"? Was it because Eve took a bite of that apple?

We have to deal with this all day for 5-7 days of each month for most of our lives. It has names...Aunt Ruby, Mother Nature, Flo, or my favorite "Surfing the Crimson Wave". We have to deal with tampons and maxi pads. We have to shop for a piece of cotton that is supposed to catch and absorb the wave. There is no Small, Medium and Large....rather, it's Lite, Regular, Super, or Super Plus. God help the woman who has to have the latter. But wait a minute, the tampon itself might not be enough protection, so let's add a maxi pad or panty liner to the mix. You have the tiny panty liners, then you have the long length panty liner, the regular maxi pad, pads with Wings (cause it just might want to fly off), and then pads long enough to stretch from our belly button all the way to the small of our back. What is that about? And then the cramps, headaches, zits and moods that come along with it. I go from pretty nice to touch-me-and-I'll-kill you. And the kicker....the appetite. Oh dear....I went to Target today on my lunch break cause I needed to pick up a few things. Well, apparently chocolate covered raisins, a dozen cookies, 3 packs of gum and 2 bags of Gummis found their way into my shopping cart. I've devoured one bag of gummis and half a bag of raisins already. And I'm just PMS'ing....

PRECIATE YA EVE! You just had to have a bite of that apple.....

Where's the bathroom?

From the title of the post, I know you must be thinking something totally different than what this is really about. I'll just come right out and tell you that is has nothing to do with the title. Kevin and I started teaching the 2nd grade Sunday School class at church this month. I missed the first week because I was out of town, so Kevin taught it by himself. I taught the next week. We are learning about the Bible this month...to obey it, read it, learn from it, and respect it. The kids are doing great in there, and they ask a lot of good questions. And as much as you might prepare for a lesson or think you know the answer to everything, there is always that question that completely throws you for a loop...because for some reason (even in church), you were not expecting it. Well, that happened last week.

I'm quizzing the kids, and they are answering everything. Then out of the blue, one of them asks:

"Where does God come from?"

My initial response in my head was "huh? Don't you mean where is the bathroom?" :) I quickly push that thought aside and answer the best way I know how to a 2nd grader. I have to carefully choose my words because the answer could then lead to more questions that are hard to get a 2nd grader to understand. So I simply tell them that God is a being, a spirit....God just IS. We don't know how God came to be, but that our faith in God is enough to make us understand and believe that He exists and that He is the Creator of all things, including us. I couldn't explain that He is infinite....because how do you explain that in terms a 2nd grader can understand? How do you explain that you can't define God in terms of time? He has just always been.

My answer seemed to satisfy them. Thank you God for helping me through that answer!

Until next time....

Oh no....

How many times have those two words come out of your mouth? They have come out of mine way too often....and most recently at church this morning. It's near the end of worship service, announcements are being made, and Avery gets up in my mom's lap. All of the sudden, we hear that dreaded sound.....yep, you got it. Avery "floated an air biscuit". OH NO!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe it. My first instinct is to laugh of course. And then I think, "maybe no one heard that". Only the deaf would not have heard it. And that is confirmed as others around us are smiling, giggling, and I can see heads down and shoulders twitching, as they are trying not to make a big deal out of it. I have Walker on one side of me laughing, and Brody on the other. And it sure doesn't help matters that their dad is laughing too. I am defeated in trying to settle the masses down after what has just happened. This would only happen to me....

What will I get? If anything....

Tomorrow is my birthday. I will be 35 years old. I am not a big gift kind of person. I don't really want anything, and there is nothing I really need. But I do appreciate a card....just to show that yes, I have been thought of today....especially from the kids. And homemade cards are the best.
But to be completely honest, I am curious to see if my husband will get me an appropriate card. And I say that because of a card I got one year. (Vikki, this story is for you because I know how much it tickles you to death).
It was either our first or second year together. My husband got me a card for my birthday. I open the envelope, and there's a cute little puppy on the front. awwww, I think to myself. But after reading it, I didn't think it was so cute anymore. And here's why:

"Nephew, a life without you would be ruff. Happy Birthday!"

Are you freaking kidding me? Nephew? I was so hurt. I know you're probably thinking, well at least you got a card. Which is true. But he could have put enough thought into it to read it to make sure it fit the bill. But no, let's just grab the first birthday card we see, sign it and give it to the ol' wife.
I now sit back and laugh about it, but I was hurt for a while. So husbands, wives....whoever you are reading this....be sure to take the 12 seconds or so it takes to read your card to make sure it's appropriate for the occasion...or better yet, the right person.

Car Line Drama

PREFACE: I have your typical middle child.

We have somewhat of a "Safety Patrol" at the car line where my boys attend elementary school. The patrol consists of roughly 10-15 current 5th grade students, headed by our P.E. teachers. Their duty is to open the car doors for the students to make the flow go smoother. Well, Brody quickly picked up on what they are supposed to do.
The other morning, I pull up to the sidewalk to let Walker and Brody out. Walker is in the front seat, and Brody is in the back. One of the patrollers walks up to the front door and opens it to let Walker out. He then proceeds to go to the car behind me....which means, you got it, Brody is left sitting there in the car. Well, that went over like a lead balloon. Brody sits there, backpack on, lunch box in hand. He doesn't budge. Our conversation, for lack of better term, follows:

G: Brody, get out of the car.
B: No
G: Brody, get out of the car right now!!!
B: No! They are supposed to open the door.
G: Brody, I'm going to whip your tail if you don't get out of this car.
B: No momma! They are supposed to open the door, and I'm not getting out until they do!

Well, needless to say, I come unglued. I'm holding up the car line, people are watching me and him yelling in the car. So I look at one of those patrol kids, point to him, and point to Brody and mouth the words "OPEN THIS DOOR". God bless him, he comes scurrying over there to open the door. I must interject at this point to apologize to the little fella, whoever he is, if I scared him in any way. I was not directing my anger at Brody towards him. I was just trying to avoid having DHR called out on me because of my stubborn child.
The next day, I pull up, and one of the P.E. teachers sees me and quickly tells the workers to be sure to open the back door also. :) I guess they learned real quick to check the car carefully before walking off. I bet they are wishing they had not signed up for this job.... :)

Football Jamboree

Walker had his very first football jamboree on Saturday. Kevin had to ride up there with Troy, you know...so they could go over some defensive stuff. So Tiff and Cierra rode up with me and Avery. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a "Tiffisode". :) She's always good for at least one any time I see her. LOL!!! So here we go down the interstate, talking and laughing. Then Cierra, out of the blue says, "momma, Ms. Suzanne said we can call her daddy Fat Daddy". I thought Tiff was going to roll her head up in the window to prevent herself from jumping out of it. You have to know Tiff to know that she was rocking back and forth and flopping around in her seat like a fish out of water. "ooohhhh, Cierra. You can't call him Fat Daddy! Surely that's not what she meant". "oohhhh Me. Ohhhh Cierra. You can't call him that". It went on and on and all I could do was laugh.
So anyway, on to the jamboree. These boys were absolutely precious in their uniforms, pads and helmets. I was about to cry because it was so sweet. Yes, I realize boys are usually not "precious", but these are! We only played 2 periods, and we got beat 6-0. One of our running backs, Darius, broke through for a long run but was tackled around the 10 yd line. And unfortunately, we couldn't score from there. But on Darius' run, Walker blocked his guy and literally drove him back for 20 yards. It was such a GREAT play. I was so proud for him. Then the other team had a long run, where Walker was held by TWO of their players, and it was not called. So that's when they scored their touchdown. Now, I'm not saying if Walker wasn't held that he would have tackled this guy. For all I know, he could have run by Walker like a blur.
But I must say with confidence that if we had a chance to play the whole game, we MIGHT would have come back and won. Or at least tied. We played our hearts out. I am very excited about the football season! Go Tigers!!!!!
FYI....it's Big Daddy, not Fat Daddy.... :)

Pictures to follow later....

A love like no other....

Me and the kids went to visit my Grandma Ruthie yesterday. Unfortunately, we woke her up from a nap. But trust me, she was wide awake before too long.
She and my Papa were married for over 50 years. Back "in the day" before he ever got old and sick, I wondered how she ever put up with him. He was your typical Yankee Polock....stubborn as a mule, not an ounce of tact (he was quick to tell me I was gaining weight) and just brash. But she loved him. And it was so evident once he got sick. She was his caregiver. She bathed him, fed him, medicated him, talked to him, brushed his hair, changed his bedding, etc.... In his final days, I have never seen someone look so pitiful. He was so frail. But Grandma kept saying he would be fine. We all knew better. I would go to sit with him at the hospital, and he just had this helpless look in his eyes. He didn't know who I was. And it was like he was just begging me to help him get home to the Lord. I would just sit there, hold his hand, wipe his little face off, and just cry. My mean ol' Papa was so tiny and pitiful. He wasn't yelling, he wasn't making grouchy faces, he wasn't complaining.....he was just there. On the days that Grandma was there when I was, she could walk in the room and he would turn to her. His face would just light up, what little bit it could. I never once heard him tell her he loved her in all my years, but it was so evident. And she loved him just as much. She would tell him over and over.
Anyway, while I was visiting with her yesterday, she made the comment that she told Papa (she talks to him) that it wouldn't be much longer before she got there. Of course, I had to tell her ever so nicely to shut her mouth and not talk that way. But I honestly believe someone can die from a broken heart. She is truly broken...she gets depressed all the time. I told her that it was so hard to see Papa the way he was in the last days, but she said "You know what Ginger, I fell in love with him all over again during that time. He was so good in bed". aahhhh.... I felt myself getting hot and faint, and I thought Lord help me if I faint right here in her floor because my kids are helpless, and Grandma will probably fall in the floor trying to help me. Then there would the both of us be in a heap on the floor. My kids wouldn't try to help....they would instantly go to the candy jar that they had been forbidden to touch. What she was saying was that he was such a good patient while he was bedridden, and just seeing him and tending to him that way made her feel that way about him all over again.
Sorry about that sidebar....anywho, I just thought that was precious. It made me think about me and Kevin. I hope that we feel the same way about each other after all those years together. My Grandma and Papa truly had a love like no other.

Pics from first day of school

These are obviously in no particular order.....
Walker....my "happy" child....

Me and Brody getting ready for the big day!
Me and Brody sitting in his class

Brody was up and ready so early that he had time to play DS.

Brody and his lovely artwork....and his name tag that looks to be close to choking him.

Brody cheesing

and again.....

All 3 of my babies getting ready for the day. Avery moved up at daycare herself. She'll be starting in 2 years.

First day of another school year

Well, my friends, another school year has started! Walker is now a 2nd grader, and Brody is in Kindergarten. The weekend before school started, we got word that a new teacher was being added in 2nd grade. And of course, Walker was one of the "randomly chosen" kids to be moved to that class. I think it will be fine. She's a nice lady and will hopefully keep Walker in line. I, of course, would be lying if I told you that Walker has not pulled a card. But lo and behold, day 2, he had to pull one. DAY 2 PEOPLE! It's not like he's brand new and trying to adjust to the rules. NOOOO....we have to stick our arm out and grab Tucker as he walks by. We can't seem to just stand in line and behave. That would be boring...
Brody has started Kindergarten this year, and I absolutely love his teacher. On the first day, we had a small meeting where she told us about a few things to expect and this and that. I remember when Walker started Kindergarten....his teacher told us to be sure to bathe our kids at night because they tend to stink after P.E. (ya think???) I thank God for what I think will be a wonderful year for Brody!

At a loss....

There's not too many times you will find me at a loss for words. But over the last week, that's where you could have found me. Our youth minister, Adam, lost his 2 year old twin niece and nephew to a tragic, accidental drowning. The pain and suffering this family is going through is beyond anything I could ever imagine, nor would I want to imagine. I just sit and think about the emptiness, the confusion, the hurt, the pain, the joy, the "everything" that these parents are feeling.
I don't even know what to say except PRAY. PRAY WITHOUT CEASING!
Hold your own babies tight! Cherish every moment with them. Hug them, kiss them, tell them you love them til you're blue in the face.

Flying high

I'm on travel this week for work. I don't have the best luck when it comes to flying....as far as my flights taking off on time, etc...let me preface this post by thanking God that I did make it to Herndon safe and sound. And I ask for prayers on Thursday as I travel back home. May God continue to keep me safe.

When my boss and I travel, we are ALWAYS delayed. Put her or me travelling with someone else from work, and flights are perfect. But for some reason or another, the two of us flying together brings out the worst in flight plans. Thankfully, I had to come up to Virginia by myself yesterday. I flew out of Huntsville for a stopover in Atlanta, and then from there to Dulles. My first flight is on a smaller plane....the reason being is that it's a 29 minute flight from Huntsville to Atlanta. So we have about 80 people at the most on this plane, and the cabin is cramped. The flight leaves on time, even a few minutes early, and it's a relatively smooth flight. That is, until we descend. I believe we hit every air pocket and cloud there was in the sky. The plane was dipping and dropping, and I actually thought I was going to throw up. It was the worst flight I had ever been on. And then to top it off, the pilot decides to land on one wheel, so we start fish tailing down the runway a couple of times until he finally gets the plane on the other 2 wheels. I'm so nauseated by this point, that I'm ready to just lay in the lap of the fella beside me. I didn't care what he or anyone else thought. All I could think was "get me off this plane before I lose all these gummies I inhaled before we took off". :)
My next flight from Atlanta to Dulles was on a much bigger plane....finally some room. Or so I thought..... Guess where the biggest man on the flight's seat was...yep, beside me. So he squeezes into his seat, and I cannot possibly sit up straight, or else I would be squished underneath his arm. And let me tell you....he's a talker. I know how old he is, what he does for a living, where he went on vacation (he even had to compare his tan to mine), how many kids he has, and just how bad Dulles airport is. I thought he would notice the glazed look in my eyes as he was talking to me, or the fact that I had a magazine shoved in my face, but no....he was oblivious to all that. He wanted to be friends. Well, I'm not on a flight to make friends with anyone. We finally take off, and lo and behold....he's a snorer. He is so loud that passengers 6 rows up turn around to see what's going on. I laugh, and they all laugh. Then I hear the sweetest words of the day...."the captain has now turned off the seat belt sign. The use of all electronic devices is now approved". I could not get my purse out from under that seat fast enough to get my iPod. The flight is very smooth, and all the sudden, my lovely seat mate decides that sitting straight will not work...so he decides to turn on his side...thus his butt is laid up on me now. Great....just great. An agonizing 30 minutes later, we land. Before we get off the plane, he says "I'm a fidgeter. I can't sit still". Really? I hadn't noticed.....

I just pray my flights home are safe, quiet and uneventful...that is if I leave on time. Which probably won't happen since I'll be flying back with my boss! :)

Oh dear....

I follow several blogs, and I am on Facebook. So I see many postings where parents are talking about their kids singing all these great Christian songs and how it just warms their heart. I equally think it's precious.
Walker borrows my iPod the other day and this is what I hear coming from the back seat....

"Apple bottom jeans"
"jeans"
"Boots with the fur"
"With the fur"

"She hit the flo"

"Low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low..."

"Baggy sweatpants"
"Reeboks with the straps"
"With the straps"

"Gave that big booty a slap"

What can I say? It warms my heart.... :) Kidding....
The one song on my iPod that I wouldn't want him to listen to, and it's the one he wants to play over and over.

Tiffisodes

Tiffisodes-these are things that my dear friend Tiff does and I must tell about.....

DISCLAIMER: I, in no way, discriminate or make fun of handicapped people. I mean, look at my husband for crying out loud....he was born with one hand. The story I'm about to tell is just too funny not to disclose.

When you come off the beach, you know there is a shower and hose to rinse the sand off of you. Me and Tiff come off the beach one day, and I rinse myself off. Then Tiff gets it to start rinsing herself off. In the meantime, a young woman with some form of illness, I'm guessing MS, approaches the area where we are. She is on those arm cuff crutches. She gets to where Tiff and I are standing, because she is about to go through the gate to get on the boardwalk. Well, Tiff raises the hose to rinse herself off and somehow or another completely misses and soaks the young woman. Tiff just stops what she's doing and drops her head in disbelief. I, on the other hand, am in total shock also and can do nothing but turn around and bust out laughing at what she has done. And just the look on her face is priceless. The young woman never acknowledges it, Tiff never says a word to her, and I'm about to hyperventilate from laughing so hard. Tiff felt horrible about it, and of course I couldn't wait to tell everyone. :)

The next story takes place at the Crab Trap restaurant. We're all enjoying ourselves and talking, and all the sudden Troy screams. Seems Tiff is so carried away by the smell of his deoderant that she was driven to bite him. She's lucky she didn't get elbowed for that....Troy said that was his first extinct reaction, but refrained from doing it. It was so funny....she was so tore up and he was in pain! :) God love her....

Beach bum

We just got back from Orange Beach. We went down on Wednesday afternoon, and got back 2 days ago. I must say it was a nice, long vacation....but not long enough. I believe I could have stayed for a month.
The trip down there wasn't too eventful. It took about 6 hours. I have 3 kids, so stopping to potty is inevitable. Our first night there, we unpacked, went grocery shopping and ate dinner. Our routine each day consisted of get up, get dressed, go to the beach or pool all day, come inside, shower, go eat, and goof around. I will touch on the highlights of the week, so as not to bore you with tiny details.

Crab hunting - Me and Tiff took 4 of the kids out crab hunting one night....Cierra, Tucker, Walker and Lee Walker (which is actually Tucker's cousin Walker, which Brody calls Lee Walker). Tucker was finding crabs left and right....granted, they were no bigger than my pinky fingernail, but he was snatching them up. Then I come upon a big hole in the sand. Me and Cierra look in the hole, and lo and behold, we spot a crab. So my Walker digs it up and it goes shooting across the sand. And of course, that sets off scream after scream from all the kids, and yes, me too. We finally get it trapped and carefully place it in the bucket. Well, he's a fiesty little booger and Tiff is sure that Harry the crab is missing his wife and kids because he keeps trying to crawl out. So I decide to place a smaller bucket inside the bucket that Harry is in to keep him trapped. We find another little crab and scramble to find a way to get it in the bucket that Harry is occupying. I lift the smaller bucket and Harry is nowhere. WHAT? Only then does he fall down from inside the bucket I pulled off the top and start scurrying across the sand. We all start screaming again....here we are, chasing this stupid crab around 20 acres of sand. I have done broke a sweat by this time, lost an earring, cussed in front of the kids (I felt terrible about that) and developed a headache. For a CRAB! It's not like it was a walking scallop with a black pearl inside. Anyway, we finally catch the stupid thing and put it back in the bucket. We get back to the boardwalk and let Brody and Tyler come check it out, and then we let it go. Harry was missing Myrtle and his kids.

Brody - We had several pools at the condo where we stayed. One of them had a top pool that had a wall with a waterfall that dropped down to the bottom pool. Me, Kevin and Brody were at the top one, and I noticed a very hairy man. As in Kevin's words, "it looked like he draped an African rug across his back". Well, Brody has apparently never seen that kind of thing because he proceeds to loudly ask "Daddy, what's that on that man's back?" I cringe, but I also turn and swim off and laugh so hard that I can hardly contain myself. Kevin is stuck there to answer that question that I know had to have been heard by Chewbacca himself. That's Brody for you....he will say whatever is on his mind....

That's all I have for now....I will post more as I remember it, and I will also try to get some pictures on here.

My husband, the comedian!

I married my husband for different reasons, but the thing that attracted me to him the most is his humor. He keeps me laughing, and I just love it!
We had Walker's baseball party at someone's pool. Kevin and his friend Troy decide they are going to race from one end of the pool to the other. And just as serious as he could be, Kevin says "I need a head start because I only have one paddle". For those of you who don't know, Kevin was born with just one hand. He has the other arm also, but has very small fingers on the end of his "nub", as we call it. Well, we all just busted out laughing! After the race was over, Kevin grabs a flipper, puts it on his nub, and starts swimming around the pool. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Every person there was just about in tears over him doing that. You just had to be there....that flipper was smacking the water with every stroke!
Oh me....

Crockett.....

Let's try this again....

DAY 2

It's Troy's birthday! The days starts the same as the day before.....breakfast, swimming, etc....

Troy decides to take some people out tubing on the boat. Well, Julie is gonna try her hand at it. She jumps on the tube and bounces right off into the water....looked just like a fish flopping around! All of us back on the shore were laughing so hard, and you could see Kevin and Troy doubled over on the boat laughing. They couldn't get her up out of the water because they couldn't quit laughing. But they finally did, and she tried again. She was successful. I must say that was the funniest thing we saw all weekend!

After all the water activities, we had a nice feast prepared for Troy's birthday dinner. We had grilled shrimp and chicken skewers, corn, potatoes and sauteed mushrooms! It was all SOOOO good!

Oh, I forgot to mention that earlier in the day Avery scooped up some ashes in her little hand. She took it to Troy and said "I make your birthday". He almost cried he thought it was so sweet.

The night went on...there was a little more story telling, but we hit the sack ealier because we were all so worn out. All in all, it was a great time! I am already looking forward to going the next time!

Mrs. Crockett is back!

I am NOT believing what just happened. I sat here for 30 minutes typing out the next post, and I got an error. WHAT?????? Anyway, I'm so mad....I don't know that I'll take the time to try to do it again.

Just Call Me Mrs. Davy Crockett

I'm not even sure if there was a Mrs. in Davy's life. But I feel as though that's who I've become! I have gone camping AGAIN! One of these days, the tales from my camping trips will not be humorous, exciting to read or even worth blogging about. But since I'm still trying to "find my way" in the camping world, I have surely got something to write about!
Tiff decides she wants to celebrate Troy's birthday by camping. Not my idea of a grand time, but hey, its not my birthday. But being the sport that I am, I agree. Now if you recall the blog from camping just one night at the Reed's, it told of how I loaded my Tahoe down with stuff. Can you imagine what it was going to look like to pack for 3 nights? I seriously contemplated renting a U-Haul trailer to tow for all the "camping supplies" I would need! But talk about redneck....I sure didn't need anymore help in that area. But have no fear....Mighty Mouse (Kevin) is here! He pulls up one night with a camper in tow! My mouth dropped, and I start playing through my head all the things I'm about to say to him about buying a camper without discussing it with me. I'm even quite certain the word divorce floated through there a couple of times. I walk outside, and I'm sure the people a mile down the road thought Indians were sending up smoke signals from all the steam I had coming out of my head! I walk up, and he can see the fury on my face....he thinks that telling me we got it for $50/wk would make the whole thing better. No, my friend, it won't.....but thankfully, he was just pulling my leg. He has borrowed it from a friend. Phew...crisis and $10,000 in legal fees diverted. Kevin has decided he is too precious to sleep on the ground in a tent for 3 nights.....no way, no how! I didn't care either way, but the camper is starting to appeal to me a little bit. So, we have a camper to use.
The first night at the campgroud, all the kids find a very small water snake....in the water, of course. Well, you must understand that snakes and spiders are two of my biggest fears. All everyone there is saying is that it won't hurt me, blah blah blah. All I heard was "that snake is the size of a school bus and it will wrap itself around you and constrict you to death". I get chills up and down my body, my heart is palpitating like crazy, and I see my life flash before my very eyes. This can't be happening. There is a snake in the water that these people are expecting me to play in tomorrow!!!!!!!! If I was a smoker, I could have smoked a cigarette the size of a paper towel roll, and it still wouldn't have been enough. After about 20 minutes, I have calmed down. We get everything unpacked and like we like it, and it's bed time.....more to follow in another post.

Keith Urban/Dierks Bently concert

A couple of years ago, I took Kevin to the Grand Ole Opry to see Vince Gill. One of the other guests there that night was Josh Turner. Well, apparently Josh's number 1 fan was sitting right in front of us. When he was on stage, there was no stopping her. She was bouncing up and down, singing, dancing, clapping, hooting and hollering....you name it. She got so carried away that I had to video it. I honestly thought I would never see anything like it again. Friends, crazed-Josh fan has met her match.....crazy woman, meet Tiffini.
I went to the Keith Urban/Dierks Bentley concert on Saturday night with Troy, Tiffini, Nickie and Suzanne. Tiffini told us on the way there that she had only been to one concert in her life. I couldn't understand that, but now I know why. Before it even started, she was all tore up just thinking about it. Then Dierks hit the stage..... "ohhhhh, ohhhhh"...."oh my"......"Oh, look at him"...."Oh my gosh"....."This is something else".....she was carrying on like I don't know what. That lasted the whole time he was on stage. I told her, "you haven't seen anything yet". We go out to the concession stand, and Tiff is fanning herself because she's already worked herself into a sweat. The girl in front of us says "are you hot? it really is hot in here." I said "Girl, it has absolutely nothing to do with the A/C but everything to do with Dierks". She laughed and proceeded to agree and then tell Tiff that this will be her 33rd time to see Keith in concert! What? I love Keith, but I'm not sure I'd pay to see him 33 times.
Anyway, we get back to our seats and wait as patiently as we can on Keith to come on stage. The lights go out, and ladies and gentlemen....it is over for Tiff. She is worried she's about to pass out. She's rocking back and forth, and screaming "oohhhhh, ohhhhhh"....and the sound coming out of her mouth is close to that of a hyena. Then here comes Keith.....she jumps up, screams, jumps up and down, waves, you name it....I've never seen anything like it. I tell Troy, "yea, now I see why you never take her to concerts". :) She is coming unglued people. She is sweating, dancing, making wax on-wax off moves (which apparently is simulating rubbing his chest), talking all kinds of stuff. It is so funny I can hardly contain myself. We are all laughing at her and so is everyone around us. This continues for the entire concert. Even during the slow songs she was sitting there in awe and sometimes rocking back and forth. At one point, Keith goes off stage, and Troy stupidly tells her that he's gonna come up to where we're sitting to sing. Well, she goes ballistic! She is grabbing my arm and trying to pull me out of my chair to go down to where she thinks he's gonna re-appear. I have to calm her down a little...."Tiff, he's not coming up here". And then of course, he didn't. He was on stage again. After the show is over, we run into the 33rd time girl, and she asks Tiff what she thought and of course she was all giddy. Tiff declares she's going to go see him again within a 3 hour drive.
But the best part......We are walking to the truck and Tiff asks where I reckon Keith comes out of the arena. I tell her it's probably way on around the other side of the area where we are. We continue walking and here comes a police car escorting a Tahoe out of the arena. We continue walking and lo and behold, guess who it is. It's KEITH URBAN!!!!!! He looks and me and Tiff and says "Have a good night" in that little accent of his! Are you kidding me? Me and Tiff go crazy and she grabs me and we start chasing the Tahoe like a couple of 16 year olds chasing the Jonas Brothers! We finally decide we are defeated as the Tahoe drives out of sight. We can't believe what just happened, so we keep asking Troy if that really was Keith. "Yes, and baldy was in there too". Baldy, as he refers to, is the bass player for Keith. We really enjoyed watching him too! :) I still get chills every time I tell that story. It was such a good night! I may laugh, but I honestly don't think it would have been as much fun had she not been there. Love you girl!
Look out Nashville, here we come......(Keith will there later in the summer)

Freedom of Expression

Walker just finished 1st grade. On his last day, he brought home a journal that they kept throughout the year. I really enjoyed seeing all the things he wrote. He loves his mom, dad, Brody, Avery, the dog, the army, the sun....
I come across one page where they have to tell about their pet. He's all cute writing things about our dog Max, and then here comes the kicker.....

"My dog pis on my haws"

Mrs. Emerson, I must apologize to you for him writing that in his journal and you possibly reading it. I could say I don't know where he gets it from, but I won't pretend to be perfect. I KNOW the word piss has come out of my mouth around my kids. I'm only human....I do strive to be cautious and choose my words carefully, but that's not always the case.

And I must admit that when I read that, I did bust out laughing. Once again, I'm not perfect. And for those of you reading this, don't you dare pretend to be. :)

At least he made proper use of his journal.....

Prissy girl

Boys and girls are NOT the same. My boys are mean and rugged and rough. And Avery is....well, see for yourself.

Such a prissy little thing. I could just eat her up!

Happy Birthday Avery!

Sunday was Avery's birthday.....she is 3 years old now. However, she acts 23....hands on her hips, talking with her hands, flirting with the boys.
We had a Princess themed party, and all the girls (plus one boy) dressed the part. We had such a good time, and she enjoyed every minute of it.

Avery checking out the cookie set she got.

Avery has just discovered her big present.....

Pomp and Circumstance

My Brody did it! He's finally a graduate! He was such a handsome little fella in his cap and gown....just all grown-up looking. They did a little skit that showed a day in the life of a Lil' Tigers preschooler. They basically ran through the motions and activities of the day. It was really cute. And then they had a slide show, and that of course got a few tears flowing. But overall, it was a very nice time. There were no funnies to really tell about.....well, except for Brody's best friend Ryan going through half of the program with his pants unzipped! :) My baby is all grown up now!

Brody with his Nana and Pawpaw

Brody with Mrs. Nickie, the owner

Brody and Mrs. Ann, his EVERYTHING. She has been with him since day 1.

The fam....I promise Avery had a better time than she's putting on.

Tonight's the night.....

Get your head out of the gutter! :)
Tonight is the night that my Brody graduates from Pre-K! I'm a little excited, I'm a little sad, and I'm a little bummed that I had to buy khakis and a dress shirt for it! :) Here I am trying to buy summer stuff because he has grown so much over the last few months, and graduation throws a kink in it. :) Oh well....he'll look handsome.
Walker never graduated from Pre-K because he went to a different program than Brody, so this is my first time. I am going to bust up in that building with digital camera, video camera, and tissue in hand. I can't wait to see the program and what all they have been practicing on. He won't tell me anything about it at home, so I have NO idea what it will be like. I'm sure there will be lots of funnies to tell about tomorrow.
I can't wait!!!!!!!

More good times, good times....

Back to the story....
We've just ordered pizza, and kids are taking baths, so Tiff decides she needs to change a light bulb in one of the outdoor lights on the outside of their garage. There's no ladder close by, so she climbs on Troy's shoulders. She's messing around with it, I can see where she's pulling the entire sconce away from the wall, and she can't find a way to get to the bulb. So Troy tells her what to look for, and she's pulling and tugging and all the sudden there is a flame that shoots up! She jumps back real fast, taking Troy with her, and luckily he held on to her. She's screaming and wailing and claiming she's been electrocuted. "AAAGGGGHHHHH....OOOOHHHHH....I've been electrocuted!....AAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!" I'm pretty sure she hasn't been, but I'm beginning to wonder by the way she's carrying on. She gets off of Troy's shoulders and calms down to realize that she is A-OK! And of course, we are all laughing til we cry. Tiff has had a rough day....cartwheeling off the 4-wheeler and now being electrocuted!
The rest of the night was pretty calm. We listened to Kevin play the guitar and Troy throw a chord in every other note or so. :) They couldn't remember any songs or words, and it was quite funny! It was like Kevin said "They knew half of a whole lot of songs!" God love 'em....

Good times, good times....

Well, here I am yet again with another post about my weekend I spent outdoors. Saturday morning, we had a yard sale at my mom's house. I spent a few hours working with that, and then I get a text message from Troy. It's somewhat of a joke....it talks of the activities that will take place at the Reed Farm. There was mudding, fishing, swimming, etc....come to find out, everyone was really wanting to go mudding. It had come a monsoon earlier in the day, so the opportunity sounded perfect! Well, I get a call from Tiffini, and she says "Are you gonna go with me so we can get ourselves a 4-wheeler? How can we go mudding if we don't have a 4-wheeler?" I'm a little stunned by what she has just asked, so I'm thinking "this has to be a joke". I had to hang up and promised to call her right back. I approach Kevin and ask him what he has up his sleeve. He is absolutely clueless. So I tell him to call Tiffini back and see if she is serious. That was a mistake, because it turned from me and Tiff getting 4-wheelers to him wanting Troy on the phone. And all the sudden I hear "Why don't we give them our 4-wheelers and get ourselves new ones?" WHAT? No way.... This is about me and Tiff. I just had the rug pulled out from under me and now Kevin is getting a new 4-wheeler? I don't think so.....
Troy, Tiff and Cierra come to the house to pick Tucker up (he had spent the night with us), but when they get there, Troy says that a car lot in Ardmore has some 4-wheelers for sale. He and Kevin take off and before I know it, I am the proud owner of a new 4-wheeler. Yea, he ended up getting one for me instead of for himself. It was my Mother's Day gift! Thank you dear!
Ok....so later on, we go to Troy and Tiff's to go mudding. The Hutcheson's are also there. Troy has an old Jeep that we can use to go mudding, but it's a stick shift. Tiff can't drive it, so I am the one who gets to drive it. We're using the Jeep so we can haul half of the children that are there. But first we have to get gas in it, and there is also a tire that is low on air. So the women load up to go.
Julie hops in the back seat and ends up sitting in something wet, so her entire hind end is soaked. Tiff gets in, and I climb in the driver's seat....and "flop"! The back of the seat flies back and I'm sitting way back like I'm about to drive through the hood, speakers thumping. We laugh til we're crying almost. We're ready to go, but where's the key. We look through the mud and pile of leaves, and rocks, and dead carcases that are in the Jeep to try to find the key. Oh, there it is....hanging from something on the rear view mirror. I grab it, and try to put it in the ignition. It won't fit. "Why is this not working?" Am I that stupid? Tiff looks at the key, and says it's not the Jeep key. So I put it back where I found it and notice that it came from a padlock that was hanging on the mirror. OMG....I AM that stupid! :) So once again we laugh about that!!!! OK...let's find Troy and see where the key is. Tiff says it has a green thingy on it, and I notice it sitting on the hood of the Jeep when I get out. So I get it, and voila....it works. I put it into what I think is first gear, but NO, it's reverse. Hello Cass' truck.....I almost hit it, but stopped it in time. I look at the head of the stick and notice that Reverse is where first usually is, and first is where second usually is, and so on and so forth. Alright, alright...I got it now. We head off to the store. I must say this Jeep is quite old, the steering is AWFUL, and I'm thankful that the car we met on the way to the gas station was WAY over on his side of the road. We're riding...hair and leaves flying everywhere in the wind. But it's somewhat calming....
I ask where the gas tank is located on the Jeep, and they tell me. We pull up to the pump, and Tiff so kindly tells me my hair looks like total you-know-what. I can't remember her exact words, but it was something along the lines of me and Kevin, and a wind tunnel. I don't know....
The 3 of us go to the back of the Jeep, and Julie and Tiff start looking at a way to get the back door of the Jeep open, because that's obviously how you get to the gas tank. :) Julie was sure of it because she saw Troy tying something to the back there. How that has anything to do with a gas tank, I'm not sure. Well, they can't get it open, so I decide to call Kevin to find out what to do, and at that time I notice there is the little twist top that you find on ALL vehicles. We bust out laughing!!!!! We twist it open and pump the gas! Now on to putting air in the tire. We put our 50 cents in, (yes, there is a charge for air now) and start filling the tire. "Julie, is the air going in?" "Yea, it's going in real good." "Are you sure?" She kicks it...."Yep, it's going in." We are all laughing once again. I'm looking at the tire, and I can't notice that it's looking much better, so we're all 3 bent over looking at it like we are mechanics. We decide it's working....then some man that knows Cass pulls up and is dying laughing at the site of us 3 women trying to fill a tire. Oh shut up is my thought! We can do this just as good as you, and look good doing it. Well, we could look good if our hair didn't look like it had just been licked by a hippo. But whatever.....
We get back to the Reed's and we're ready to go. So we all take off and line up getting ready to head back to the mudding area, and me and Tiff and some of the kids blow by them and we're ready to cross the muddy creek to get to the site. We're hooting and hollering like a bunch of wild baboons!!!! We hit the creek and we're slinging mud everywhere! WOO HOO!!!!!! That was fun! Now it's time to hit the trail, and we barely get started before we hit the first big mudhole. Well, my expertise in Jeep driving does not come in handy as we get it stuck. We are slinging mud everywhere. It's all down my left side, in my hair, in my mouth..... Tiff is yelling and having a good time, Brody is crying, and I'm laughing! Troy is shouting out orders that I need to do to get it out, and nothing is working. So he comes back there trying to get it out himself, but to no avail. Kevin and Cass try to pull it out with their 4-wheelers, but that's not working either. Oh well.....we leave 'er behind in the mud! She was a good Jeep....all 58 seconds she lasted. :)
We all shift around as to who is riding with who on the 4-wheelers. I take Kevin back on my 4-wheeler to pick up Walker's (he decided to ride with someone else), and we go back to where everyone is waiting. But no.....I get my 4-wheeler stuck. You have GOT to be kidding me! I have it down in the rut so far that the water is rushing up over the left side of the foot stand. I'm leaning to the right to keep it from falling on over on it's side and Kevin comes and makes me get off so he can get it out. I climb off, and he throws it in reverse and after a little bit he has it out. He tells me to keep it out of the ruts (remember this comment for later in the story).
OK....we're all back together, and we're ready to continue our ride. 3 minutes later, someone is stuck. I don't know who....there were so many of those instances. At least I wasn't the only one. We come to a spot that Troy wants us to wait, and he and Cass are going ahead a little bit to try to knock down some trees so it will be easier to get through. Tiff throws one leg over to dismount the 4-wheeler, Troy guns it cause he thinks she is off, and she comes off of that thing in the most excellent form of a cartwheel. It's like it was in slow motion....I see one leg coming over, followed by an arm, and then she lands with her feet and hands on the ground! Where's the scorecard cause I give this girl a 10! I love to see anyone fall (without getting hurt of course), and I am dying laughing. I cannot control myself. She's fussing at Kevin because she said all she saw when she popped up was Kevin shaking from laughing so hard. LOL!!!! Even Cass was laughing at her! Poor Tiff.... Anyway, we wait and wait for Troy and Cass to return....I have to pee. I am not a pee-er in the woods. We all know this. All the boys decide they have to go. That makes it worse for me. I have really got to pee now. I am NOT using the bathroom in the woods. Forget it. Cierra and Julie have to go. "Come on Ginger, let's go"..... FINE! The 3 of us walk back to a hidden area. I fear that if I squat to pee, I won't be able to get back up. Then they will find me laid back in briars, with my pants around my ankles. But I talk myself up that it's simply peeing in the woods, not brain surgery. So, the deed is done. I make it out safe and alive, free of snake bite (ref: prior blog post Yosemite:) ). Troy and Cass make it back and we continue on. Lots more of stopping and getting someone out of the mud, over and over. I get stuck again and Kevin tells me to stay in the ruts, and I won't get stuck again. Did he not just tell me at the beginning of the trail to stay out of the ruts? Whatever the case, we get done and we head up to the house, decide to order pizza, and everyone takes their turns taking baths to get the mud off......
I'm starting to get sleepy, so I'll finish the story in another post....

ZIP IT!

If you were at Walker's game last night, you had to know this post was coming today. First off, let me preface this story by saying that I am a sports mom. I am going to yell at the games, cheer, hoot and holler....you name it.
Tucker is getting ready to bat, and I hear his dad (who is a coach) tell him "Do NOT swing at the first pitch!" Tucker nods his head as in saying "yes sir". Well, our pitching coach throws the ball, and what does Tucker do....he swings at it and misses. I yell "Tucker Reed, your daddy said No!" Tucker doesn't turn around and acknowledge me or anything. Which is normal, he usually doesn't. Coach throws the next pitch and it's over Tucker's head. He misses again! I yell "Tucker, that was over your head boy!" Tucker turns and looks at me and turns right back around. The coach looks at me and says "you....you're gonna have to zip it". (and this wasn't in a cutesy kind of way. he was serious)
OH NO YOU DIDN'T! (that's me in my Sha-naenae lingo) Did he really just call me out in front of everyone and say that to me? I think I was a little shocked at first, but then I started boiling. I respect him as a coach, and I expect the same respect from him as a parent. If you have something to say to me, you do it after the game and not in front of everyone. His wife asked "Did he really just say that?" Yep honey, he did. A little while later she said I should slap him after the game. I wouldn't take it that far! :) But I did admit to her that it pissed me off. I know it may seem crazy and I could totally understand him getting upset if I was telling the player to do something opposite from what the coach was saying. But it was nowhere near anything like that.
Then to top it off, Walker gets up to bat and I'm yelling for him to hit. And Kevin says to him "She is not your coach. You listen to me." OMG! I'm gonna have to bust a cap in his tail! What is it with these men?????
After the game was over, I'm walking by the dugout and the coach and Kevin are in there and the coach says "you're gonna have to put a muzzle on her". I ignore the comment and keep walking. Then a few minutes later the coach says "You can't just talk to the players like that when they're batting." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I am fuming, but I contain myself because I don't want to make a scene. It's not like I was striking up a conversation with Tucker in the middle of a game.
Anyway, this is just my way to release the emotions I have from last night. It's not meant to berate him in any way. I just needed to vent my frustrations to whoever will listen out there. I may be completely in the wrong, but it's the way I feel.
Until next time.....

Sunday Morning Entertainment

Two of my three children are too old for Children's Church during Sunday morning worship hour. So that means they have to sit out in the sanctuary with me and Kevin....and the other 200+ members. Why, oh why, have we not created sound-proof enclosed pews? Surely someone has a patent pending on this idea.....
I'll just give you a little timeline of yesterday's worship hour to prove to you why we need them:

10:30 - Opening prayer....we all stand. Except for Brody who is slumped down as far as he can get

10:32 - Walker asks if preaching is over yet...."No son, it's not even begun yet"

10:34 - Somewhere in the middle of a song, Walker once again asks if it's over yet

10:35 - Brody grabs a hymnal and starts violently flipping through the pages....I get a death grip on his hand and he let's go....

10:40 - It's Senior Adult Sunday, and my son wants to know why the old people are in the choir

10:42 - The choir is singing and Brody is bopping around like he's on a disco floor. My eyes meet his and he stops.

10:43 - Brody starts swaying back and forth to the music.....he stops when I grab the back of his neck

10:45 - Allena looks over at me and has the biggest smile on her face....Either she's thinking under her breath that I need to take my children out or she's thinking "Poor girl, I've been there with my 2 boys"

10:46 - I start asking myself if I took my crazy pill? Did I? Did I? Yes...No....Maybe?

10:48 - "Is preaching over yet?"......I'll give you one guess as to who that was.

11:05 - Preaching has started and Brody wants to turn around and take roll. He just has to know who all is there. "Turn around son. Quit being so nosey."

11:15 - Walker lays his head in my lap and falls asleep. Thank goodness....one down and one to go.

11:18 - I wonder to myself "Why in the world did Kevin sit us so close to the front where everyone and their mother can see the commotion we cause?"

11:22 - Do I smell something? No, I don't think so....maybe I'm just being paranoid.

11:30 - Preaching is over....."yes Walker, it's over"

11:31 - Brody announces that he has to potty. I'm sure the people sitting on the other side of the church heard him.

11:32 - Announcement time - Kevin takes Brody to potty.

11:33 - Preston, Austin and Michael are making Walker snicker by making faces at him. I can't help but snicker too. I'm delirious by this point and well aware of the fact that I did take my medicine. :)

11:34 - Church is over! I know I shouldn't be excited, but when you are constantly fighting a battle while sitting there, you are ready to get out.

Sweet Caleb

I have a tendency to follow the journeys of a lot of sick children....some are healed, while others are not. God created my heart to feel for these children like I do, and I honestly hate it. I can't stand to see children suffering, but God insists that I follow their journeys and pray for them. One of the latest ones is a sweet boy named Caleb Gill. I learned of him through a Sunday School member mentioning him in class one day. His family had already been through a living hell with the father dying a few years ago. The mother, Debbie, was left to care for 4 children. And if things couldn't get any worse, they do. Caleb was diagnosed with a brain tumor in August 2008. He fought hard, and some would say he lost his battle. But I disagree. I think he won! He is with his daddy and our Father in heaven.

I would ask that you lift this family up in your prayers as they must deal with yet another loss. His site is listed below. I encourage you all to visit the site, and I dare you to say you were not blessed by it.
