Thank you GMac

Like it or not, college football is a way of life in the south. Families and friends are divided over their greatest rivalries. It is instilled in us from the first breath we take. Life stands still on football Saturdays. There is nothing like it. And I've been debating from the last post I had on here as to whether I address the things I have seen, heard, read and experienced since the Iron Bowl. But I choose not to go there because it will only turn into false accusations, cussings, name callings, whinings and boastful attitudes. Instead I choose to focus on a positive....our Crimson Tide QB Greg McElroy.
A few years ago, then Alabama head coach Mike Shula was heavily recruiting a fella out of Florida....the great Tim Tebow. And on the other end, we had a fella from Texas who was holding out hope to attend Alabama....Greg McElroy. We all know how the Tim Tebow story ended. And because it went that way, we were lucky enough to get Greg McElroy! Yep, that's right....LUCKY!
Greg McElroy, or affectionately called GMac, is not flashy. When you talk about the greatest college QB's of all time, he might not make the Top 20. But he's solid, he's intelligent, he's respectful, and he's classy. He led the mighty Crimson Tide to a 14-0 season, an SEC Championship, and our 13th National Championship. He navigated a game winning drive against our biggest rivalry. He danced down the sidelines in the Georgia Dome to get that first down. He executed a flawless game in that same dome. And that night, he made everyone remember that Alabama lost nothing when Tim Tebow turned us down. And then he led our team to the NC!
On January 1, 2011, GMac will play his last game in an Alabama uniform. I know it will be a very bittersweet moment for him. I know without a doubt that he will play his absolute best for his team, his university, and all of us fans. I, for one, am very thankful for his dedication to MY football team. He helped take us back to the top! I wish him nothing but the best. I know what he has done at Alabama is just a minor step in the huge life he's about to lead! God bless you GMac! And ROLLLLLLL TIDE ROLL!

Dear Opposing Team

I love football! Always have, always will...and I love a great football game. I said in my post from yesterday that if Bama played 60 minutes, they wouldn't get beat. But they did. They played 30 minutes and then let their foot off the gas. They let an average team, yes I said it, an average team whip up on them the last 30 minutes. That team has a great player, another 70 who ride his coat tail, and a lot of luck on their side. But something that team is totally lacking is class. I had a friend, who is a fan for that other team, try to tell me last night that Bama had no class because we put their band in the upper deck (could not be anymore wrong) and because a bunch of frat boys were throwing fake money at their QB. Those are the people in the stands. Nothing our coaches can control. But those are not our players. Let me just shed some light on what the PLAYERS from the opposing team did last night:

1. Before the game even started, their QB ran to OUR "A" emblem at midfield and kneeled down like a Pharisee and prayed. Just a side note, not only is that disrespectful, but God also instructs us to go into another room and pray...not to pray to be seen.

2. After the game, the other team's players started acting like a bunch of thugs when, instead of celebrating with their fans, they chose to run down to OUR student section and started using obscene hand gestures and throat slashing motions. Once again, let me emphasize these are the team players doing this, not the fans.

3. And here's the kicker....when our QB Greg McElroy went down with an injury, two PLAYERS from the other team hopped up on their bench, turned to our fans, started dancing and hollering "whatchu gonna do now, huh?". This was all done while GMac was still down.

I have been to many ballgames in my life, both home and away. And I have NEVER witnessed our players doing these kinds of things. And do you know why.....because our coach teaches them not to act that way. Our players would never be allowed to disrespect someone else's field, students, fans, etc.... The loss we took last night was one that hurts a lot, but I do believe I would rather take a loss with some class than be a boastful winner.

So opposing team.....I suggest you don't act this way when you visit our stadium. Just food for thought....

There's a reason I love my CRIMSON TIDE.......

Dear Bama

Dear Bama,
This is a letter to a team I hold dear to my heart. Players from the past, present, and those yet to play for you. You are THE best! Always will be! You may not be the cream of the crop every year, but you will always be number 1 in my heart! Who else can say they have the most bowl appearances, most bowl wins, most SEC championships and most National Championship titles? No one! You are the one! You are the best. Often imitated, but never duplicated! The school down the road thrives on one thing....beating you. Doesn't matter how the rest of their season is.... if they can just beat you, then all is well on the Plains. But not in T-town! The football program is sacred. Yes, I said it. You had the best coach STILL to ever walk the sidelines. JoePa is amazing.....but he's not the best there ever was. And now we have one of the most respected coaches in these days....Nick Saban. He may not stay with Bama for years to come, but he got you back where you belong....ON TOP!!!! We rose to the top last year in methodical fashion. You dared the opponent to cross the line. They never did. You've taken a beating this year, but you haven't given up. And the biggest game is less than 48 hours away. The game that means so much in this state. The game where boys become men! That other team has a player that has carried them to an 11-0 season. Everyone seems to think you should be intimidated by him? Why? He's 6'6 and 250 pounds, big by QB standards. But he's not invincible. And I know you know that. Auburn needs to thank that MSU player who dropped the TD pass in the endzone, the entire UK defense that couldn't hang with them just one more drive, and the Clemson and SC teams for just folding like a cheap suit. It's time to shut the smack talk up and feed crow to the obnoxious fans out there who think Auburn is the next coming of greatness. Them and their national championship. Oh, I'm sorry....make that 1/2 national championship. Can't forget the Buckeyes shared that with them.
I expect you to play your best game ever. All 60 minutes of it. If you play like you're capable, you won't be stopped. But if you are, then the other team is simply better. Finito. No excuses. Me and 100,000 of my closest friends, give or take a couple thousand, will be there screaming and yelling like never before. We will not let you down. And I don't expect you to let us down.
At some places, they play football. At Alabama, WE LIVE IT!
ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pedro

I've decided to tell my story of little Pedro since so many people at work have gotten a kick out of it. My boss and I were in a conference call in her office one day. Her office has floor to ceiling windows in it. All the sudden we hear this loud thump. We look outside and see a bird laid out on its back. I thought it was dead. But I couldn't help but laugh, and here she and I are laughing at this bird. Or at least trying to contain our laughter. But what was so funny was his little bird friend that was standing there looking over him. It's like I could just hear him saying in his little bird voice:
"Get up little buddy!"
"Breathe Pedro breathe!"
"Run away from the light!!!"
And then all the sudden, as if he did run from the light, the bird pops up on it's little bird legs. Then he tries to walk and he stumbles a little to one side. And then to the next. And then to the other side again. He disappeared behind the bush, so I don't know if little Pedro made it or not. But his little friend never left his side.

Quackadoo

You know my friend Angie from a prior post where I was admiring her sweatshirt with the duck on it. Lovely row of lace around the collar, big ol' duck sewn on the front. Real special shirt.... Anyway, that's how I came about her nickname of Quackadoo. Well, she strikes again!

Apparently, she was "cleaning her closet out" and found this treasure, circa 1989:

I'm thinking lots of things when I see this:

1. Joseph's coat of many colors

2. I had a prom dress in 1992 made of the same material

3. She could balance a 6 pack of Sundrops on those shoulder pads

4. Tim let her out of the house with that?

5. Bless her....

And then she goes back out to her vehicle and comes in with these lovely capris, circa last year:

And once again:

1. I think I saw someone wearing a pair of those last week

2. I think Martha Stewart is going to be pissed off you turned her tablecloth into capris

3. And again, Tim let you out of the house with those?

4. Hey, I think the duck sweatshirt would go great with those

Quackadoo makes me smile...she can laugh at herself while everyone else is laughing too! Thanks for making me smile!

My eyes! My eyes!!!

If you know me at all, you know I love to people watch. You can see all kinds of weirdness out there in the world! In the last two days, I have not been disappointed.
On Thursday, I'm driving home from work as usual. Nothing great about my drive home. Same ol, same ol.....that is until I see two ton Tommy. He gives new meaning to the phrase "wind blown" or "feel the wind through my hair". Let me just say this, Tommy boy looks like he's sporting a dead animal on his chest and stomach. And do you know how I know this? Because he is riding in his Jeep with nothing on but Speedos! He's pushing 50 years old, and he's PROUD of what he has. All 3oo lbs of it. I'm telling you, those Speedos looked like they were working hard. I don't know what to do or think when I see this. So I just keep driving and praying that I just blacked out for a second.
And then today at lunch, I go to a drive-thru. I pull up to the window, and I'm sure I scared the dude handing me my order. I couldn't help but jump back a little when I saw that his lips were glossed up more than mine, his skin was perfect and his eyebrows were perfectly manicured. I am a lip gloss FANATIC, and it was all I could do not to ask him what kind he had on. But I used my better judgement and decided not to even go there for fear the conversation would turn into something I really didn't need to hear.
And then this evening as I'm coming home from work once again, I had to stop at the grocery store. As I'm pulling through the parking lot, I see this girl standing outside her car. She has to be two ton Tommy's daughter Tina. She has squeezed her size 24 butt into size 12 shorts, and there is just overflow like you wouldn't believe. When I finally saw her from the front, I thought to myself "wow, they make flesh colored fanny packs now". But no, that wouldn't be a fanny pack. I'll let you digest that for a moment......
Just because you can get it on doesn't mean it fits. As we like to say in the South, you can say anything about anyone you want as long as you follow it up with "God love it" or "bless her..."
So until next time.....bless her.

Friends

I was sitting on Facebook the other night and saw a post from a sweet friend of mine, Callie, that said "just ate with my best bud Michael". These two are seniors in high school. It made me think back to my time in school and the friends I had. Am I still friends with everyone? Do I talk to them all? Some of the answers were yes and some were no. And I've made many new friends along the way that I am blessed to have. This is a post about my closest friends. They are all close and dear to me, but for different reasons. I do want to preface this by saying that Kevin is my absolute best friend and so is my mom, but that's easy to figure out why they are. This is for all the others....

Melony - she IS me! We have been asked on numerous occassions if we are twins. We look alike, we talk alike, we dress alike. We can finish each other's sentences and with just a glance, we always know what the other is thinking. I can go for days without talking to her, but when we hook back up, it's like we never missed a beat. I am comfortable with her. She knows me inside out and despite my faults, she loves me. I know that no matter what I need or when I need it, she is the one person who will drop everything to help me out. She is THE BEST!

Shawn - my best "boy" friend since 5th grade. He is so devoted. In high school, he was the one who always talked me out of dating the idiots. Obviously, I didn't listen to him on a couple of occassions. But he protected me. He watched out for me. We did everything together. Even if we were out with a big group, it was me and him. He listened to me gripe about everything, and he still does to this day. I can send him a random text about the color of a car, and he will always respond. Even after 25 years, we still have things to talk about. We still meet for lunch 2-3 times a month. I love him, and I will have his back til the day I die.

Julie - my text buddy! It's funny how we used to not like each other because of a certain ex, but we both realized that friends are more important than any boy. We share a special bond through sports and our boys now. She may have moved off, but we text at LEAST once or twice a day, if not more. It's like she never moved.....except for the obvious.

The New Hope Girls - Niki, Nikki, Salee, Christie, Evie and Tina!!! I love these girls! I am so thankful to have met them through my dad and through Kevin. They make me laugh. They make me smile. I miss them because I don't get to see or talk to them much anymore. But they are there, and I know they always will be. Special girls!

Troy and Tiff - They are our "couple" best friends. We do all the couple things with them that normal people do. :) Me and Tiff swear that Troy and Kevin are brothers from different mothers because they are so much alike. It's scary really. I have a love/hate relationship with Troy. He can push the right button with me sometimes, and I want to just pinch his head off. But then he can be good and do anything for us. Tiff and I have a lot in common, especially Keith Urban! She is my KU concert partner! We go crazy and act a fool, and neither one of us care. We love him! Oh, and she and I love to people watch. We can just look at each other when we see "one" and know what the other is thinking. It's uncanny, really. Troy and Tiff are good to us. They always say yes when we need them to help with the kids or the dog! They are precious!

Leslie, Natalee, and Kelli - these three keep me laughing! I was one of Leslie's first friends when she came to Ardmore in 6th grade. And we are still friends to this day, and now we work together! Natalee was the best roommate I could have ever asked for. And Kelli, there are no words to describe Kelli! I just love, love her! She can say Hi and it cracks me up!

And for all those I haven't mentioned, you know who you are. And you touched my life in some way. And though I didn't call you by name, I am grateful to call you my friend!

Love you all!

Few and Far Between

Sometimes there are people that come into your life that have such a huge impact on you. Whether it be someone you have known all your life, someone you work with, someone you see at a family reunion every 5 years, or maybe just someone you meet once in your lifetime. I have recently experienced the latter one.
Back in September '09, Troy and I were busy planning Tiff a surprise birthday party. He was responsible for getting the guest list together and for picking the date. He threw around a couple of dates, but he finally decided on one in particular. And when he told me why, I remember thinking to myself, "Well, he must be pretty special". Anyway, he chose a date where a man named Wade would be there. He was coming from Georgia to visit family, and that was the only weekend he would be there around the time of Tiff's birthday.
Wade worked with Tiff for many years at Wolverine. He was her mentor. He was her "father figure" at work. She talked at length on several different occasions about how much she loved and admired him. I couldn't wait to meet him. It was the night of the party, and Wade, along with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, were the first ones there. I had a chance to chat with him for a few minutes. I could tell right away why Tiff thought so much of him. He had a glowing personality and a gentle presence. A little while later, Tiff finally came in and panned the room full of guests. But when she got to Wade, she teared up. I won't ever forget that because it was truly special. I watched Tiff interact with Wade and his family the entire night, and there was so much laughter and joking and him telling stories of her crazy days at work. He even had a name for her....Radar. He said she always had her radar up!!!
Sadly, Wade passed away last week from a massive heart attack. When Tiff told me, I just couldn't believe it. It consumed my mind for the rest of the day and night. I couldn't figure out why, as I had only met him that one time and talked to him just sparingly through the night. And then it dawned on me.....I didn't have to know him to know just how special he was. I could see that by the way everyone else responded to him. Those kind of people are few and far between. But once they enter your life, they never leave.
May God bless your family Wade, and may you rest in peace.

A Lesson on Heaven

If you've followed my blog for any length of time, then you know all too well that Brody is your typical middle child...not a care in the world and will just say whatever is on his mind. Well, here is how the conversation went this morning on the way to daycare when Walker saw the book "90 Minutes in Heaven" sitting in my truck:

Walker: "What is this book about?"
Me: "It's about a preacher who died in a car wreck, went to heaven and then came back."
Brody: "It's so hard to get to heaven."
Me: "All you need is to accept Jesus into your heart."
Brody: "and a rocket...."

I really don't know how to end this blog cause there are no words.....just lots of laughs. Gotta love my Brody....

American Bandstand

Well, what would a Monday be without a posting of the happenings on the Dunn pew at church? The children's choir performed their musical yesterday morning, and it was GREAT! They did a wonderful job, as did Mrs. Brenda and Mrs. Jackie leading the musical. My children do not participate, cause let's face it, they would be bored out of their gourd because it does not involve a ball or a light saver. We settle into the pew, and before we even get started, Brody leans over and whispers "are we eating that bread thing and drinking juice today?" You know the love that Brody has for the Lord's Supper. So I have to break it to him that we won't be doing that today. A few minutes pass, and the children are ready to perform. The music starts, and I must say it's very catchy. And little did I know, but Michael Jackson is in da' house! Yep, Brody breaks out into a dance in the pew beside me. Boy has got some rhythm! He's got those shoulders going and that head is bopping! He is just a smiling too! And then I hear the giggles from the pew behind me....it's the Hogan's. Ruth and Kenneth are part of our older generation, and their son Brian is also there. Of all the people that have to sit behind us. At least they're getting a kick out of it. I get to giggling and can't stop myself. But I finally do and tell Brody to knock it off. He does. Until the next song and here he goes again. Then Avery and Walker join the dance party, and we have American Bandstand on the Dunn pew. Where's Dick Clark when you need him? Anywho....we finally get the Jackson 5 under control and enjoy the rest of the musical. Many thanks to the children of Piney Grove! :)

Well, it starts with an "F"

My oldest, Walker, has a little condition called chronic rhinitis. Simply put, his nose will run like a faucet at any given time, and nothing triggers it. It just happens. No certain time of the year, it just is what it is. Well, it's been running a lot lately, and I couldn't find his Nasonex. So I call the doctor's office to get them to call in a refill for me. The nurse calls me back and says that Dr. C wants to know if I will try Flonase, which is the generic for the Nasonex. I'm sitting there thinking to myself, and then trying to explain to the nurse, that we've already tried something that started with an "F". I kept thinking Flonase did not sound right. And then it hit me, "we have tried Flomax before, and it didn't work." There is a moment of silence on her end, and then she slightly hesitates before she says "you mean Astelin?" Well, yea, we've tried that before too, but I'm pretty sure this stuff started with an F, and I think it's Flomax. I can tell her voice is different, and then at the same time I have a co-worker standing in my door laughing at me hysterically, and I can't figure out for the life of me why. So she calmly says, "we'll go ahead and call in the Flonase for you". Ok, thanks! Well, I hang up, and I ask my co-worker why he is laughing so hard. Well, let's just put it this way....unless my son has an enlarged prostate, there's no wonder the Flomax didn't work. :) So obviously, whatever I think we tried before definitely did NOT start with an "F"!

Hodge Podge of sorts

It's been quite some time since I've blogged. Needless to say, I've been a little busy with baseball starting up and with the beauty walk going on. Thankfully, the beauty walk is behind me, but baseball is in full swing! There's no need to type out separate blogs for some of the things I wanna talk about, so I'm just throwing it all out there in this one blog.

Avery:

Well, she cut her herself a few little bangs last night! Probably wouldn't be so bad if she didn't have a cowlick that actually looks like a moose licked it instead! All I gotta say about that is GROW BABY GROW!!!!! Also, a few weeks ago, we got home for the evening and she's running and playing in the house. All the sudden she screams "MY NOSE HURTS!!!!!" I rush to her thinking she's run right smack into something, but I couldn't be that lucky. As it turns out, she's stuck a rock up her nose. And it can NOT be seen! But I can definitely feel it up in the bridge of her nose! So I calmly lay her down and tell her it will be fine but I need to check it. So she calms down enough to let me look. Nope, can't see it. So I get her to blow her nose a few times, and snot is coming all out of one side, but nothing out of the side with the rock. So it's confirmed that there's definitely a rock stuck up there. So she blows and blows and finally, it goes flying out. And I will have you know that I saved it for her baby book!

Brody:

He is absolutely loving baseball this year. Which is a good thing, considering how last year he just wandered around in the field and could have cared less if a ball came to him. He hit two homeruns a week or so ago, and he thought he was the bomb. He come running across home plate with his arms spread to each side like "Get you some of this". Terry Bob is also letting him catch some, and he is everything you think a catcher would be. Stocky, mean, and slow. :) He just dares those players to run across home plate! He wants to catch more than anything.

Walker:

My little Walker...who is actually not so little. He's getting so tall. And he is such a loving boy. He is eating baseball up! If he's not playing or practicing, he's acting like he's playing at home. He'll put on his practice clothes, play shoes, and batting gloves and then take to the practice field at home. He's starting to have the fever for pitching. He is no Tom Glavine, but he does decent. He has this little "two-tap" he does with his foot, telling us that's how he gets ready to pitch. And his daddy has to remind him that it would be considered a balk. :)

Kevin;

My hubby just turned 35! We celebrated with grilled steaks and peach cobbler! SOOOOO good! He got thrown out of a game during the pre-season tournament. He made an argument about a call, which the ump was wrong. I have to give Kevin credit for that. Kevin told the ump he didn't know what he was doing, and apparently the ump didn't like it, so he threw Kevin out. Well, that was all it took. Kevin started arguing more, and then he made this motion toward the ump. I honestly didn't know if we were about to see Lord of the Dance or Daniel-Son (Karate Kid) in that moment. He raised his leg up like he was going to hop towards him and then stopped what he was doing. It was the funniest thing. Kevin said he was about to kick dirt on the ump and then decided not to....that's why he hiked his leg up like that. As you can imagine, I've had a dandy of a time telling and showing everyone I know!

And me:
Well, I'm busy as heck at work. We have auditors here for about 12 weeks. No, that was not a mis-type....12 WEEKS! As much as I've tried, I am not pleasant some days. I finally told one last week that I didn't particularly like him and I wanted him to go home because I didn't have time for him. I was only half-kidding. I'll let you figure out which part I was kidding about. :)
The beauty walk is over, thank goodness! I think it went very well. Of course, there were a few minor problems, but nothing that wasn't fixed quickly. I look forward to doing it next year, after a much needed break! :)

That's about it for now....I will leave you with a Brody-ism:

Kevin is patting out hamburger meat for hamburgers one night, and very seriously, Brody asks him "Are we having tacos?"

That's my boy.....

Just call him Grace

Our good friend Troy was at the house last night so our boys could have some hitting practice. Well, Kevin bought some kind of contraption that's supposed to help the boys hit correctly. It didn't come with instructions, but it did come with a DVD. So Kevin sent Troy inside our house to watch the DVD, and I had to operate the player for it. Troy went ahead of me and Avery because I was having to round up Coby to take him in with us. I walk out of the shop and head towards the house and what do I see. Troy is on the ground!!!!! He hopped up real fast like "whoop, I hope no one saw that". But no such luck. (There's nothing more I love to see than someone fall.) I bust out laughing and cannot control myself. I walk back in the shop to announce it to Kevin who starts laughing. Then I had to run back out of the shop because I didn't want to miss anything else. And I'm still hee hawing. Troy is slowly making his way up the steps, as to be careful that he does not slip and fall again. I'm walking across the yard laughing hysterically, trying not to pee on myself, so my legs are crossed as I'm walking. Troy yells out "Yea, keep laughing. See what happens when you try to step on that step." I get in the house and of course I'm still laughing, and Troy finally starts to laugh along with me. He is soaked. I laugh some more. I finally calm down enough to get the DVD started. Throughout the entire time we were watching it, I would just bust out laughing in hysterics. He had to admit that it was pretty funny too. I told him that when he hopped up and looked around, it was like he was thinking to himself that he hoped no one saw it. He said that wasn't the case...he was trying to hurry and get up to keep from getting any wetter. (yea rigt, and I'm Miss America--ha!) I asked if he would have told me he fell had I not seen it. He said yes, but I'm not so sure. Troy went on to say that if I thought it was funny just seeing him get up, then I should have seen him actually fall. I do hate that I missed that. But he did indeed provide me with some much needed comic relief! Thanks Troy! :)

Fashion???

I dedicate this entry entirely to Angie! You have given me many minutes of laughter from your "beautiful" sweatshirt!!!!
Have you ever sit and looked at old pictures and wondered "What was I thinking?" At what point did I look in the mirror, and say "Yes, this is the look I'm going for"? I recently got my scanner hooked back up, so I have enjoyed looking through the old pics and scanning them in and completely embarrassing myself and my friends.
I just wanted to share a few of my faves with you......

The shorts....not only are they pulled up to my armpits, but they also make me wonder what my prisoner identification number is?

Anyone up for a game of Twister? Cause that's what this pitiful shirt looks like.....

Never mind the fact that you could set a match to that big puff on the top of my head, but it looks like a deformed breed of poodle. It's truly a "what was I thinking" moment. I should have bought stock in White Rain hair spray.

AND MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE......

The duck sweatshirt. Yes, I realize that ducks were "in" back then, but that doesn't necessarily mean you had to go with the flow. And if the duck wasn't enough, they add a touch of lace around the collar. I bet this was a hot item at any Cracker Barrel store on I-65. Oh, and then you could get the duck wallpaper and figurines to match your sweatshirt. SWEET!

Hey, if you can't make fun of yourself.....

Quack quack Angie, quack quack....

"It sounded like a train"

Here in the last two weeks, the city of Huntsville has experienced two horrible tragedies....two shootings at two separate schools. First, a 14 year old was shot and killed by a classmate at their middle school. Then today, a female faculty member at the local university shot and killed 3 faculty members and injured 3 more because she was denied tenure. And as unbearable as these two situations are, I pause to reflect on the interviews that I see on TV after each occurrence. And after anything that happens in this area, whether it be shootings, tornadoes, snow.....
Huntsville is a city of brilliant people....NASA engineers, military contractors, etc....the news channels could close their eyes, throw a dart and snag an intelligent person to interview. But no, they hand pick Willie, who weighs all of 105 pounds soaking wet. He's sporting some Wranglers, a Budweiser t-shirt, a belt buckle the size of a small child, a trucker's hat with some redneck saying on it like "You want some of this?", and cowboy boots that clearly have been scuffed from years of bar fights and cow tipping. He's got a dip in his mouth, and he spits the juice through the hole that sits where his front tooth used to be. (But he lost that tooth somewhere at Porky's when that out-of-towner hit on his woman) The reporter asks him if he saw the tornado and what his experience was like. Well, he was "sitting in his Laz-y-boy watching some rasslin', you know that John Cena is a tough fella, and all the sudden I could hear the underpinning rattling real loud. So I grabbed my PBR and ran out on the front porch, and I saw it coming over 'em hills over there. Ppppttttssss (that's him spitting some dip juice out) And then I heard the sound, you know they always say it sounds like a train. Well, it does. You know, I ain't never seen nuttin' like that before."
I wish I could say I ain't never seen nuttin' like Willie before, but unfortunately, any time the news is looking for an interview, I am sure to see one!

An hour on the Dunn pew....

I love going to our church. I love the people. And today was a very special day as two young men were baptized AND we had the Lord's Supper. But as special as it truly was, you know the Dunn family turns it upside down!

"B" denotes Brody and "W" denotes Walker:

10:28 - we sit down, ready to begin the 10:30 service.

B - "Is it time to go home yet?" No, son we just got here.

10:31 - Bro. Ray enters the baptistry.

B - "Who's getting babitized?" Michael and John Douglas (and yes, I spelled it like he says it)

10:34 - My arm starts to feel a little wet. What in the world? So I look over at my arm and notice that Walker is asleep and drooling all over me. Wow, 4 minutes into the service....record time.

10:55 - The deacons and pastor start the formality of the Lord's Supper by passing out the bread.

B - "Are we gonna eat that bread thing and drink them juices?" Yes, son. Be quite.

(Walker is now head-bobbing.)

11:12 - B - "How did Jejus die?" I'll tell you after church. Be quite. I can see me having to explain that one at the moment.

11:20 - W - "Momma, when are we gonna have drinks?" Well, look who has decided to wake up again and join us.

11:22 - We have just finished taking of the cup, and of course Brody lets out his infamous "aaaahhhhh". And I snicker....once again. How can you not think that's cute?

Church is always a pleasant experience, and one that you just can't ever predict. Especially with the Dunn's around....

Sneaky little thing....

Yes, I know it seems like the only thing I blog about is Brody. But you know, he is the one who blows my mind with the things he comes up with. Whenever someone asks us about our kids, Kevin always refers to Brody as the one we'll be getting out of jail at age 15. I sure do hope that's not true, but it is very likely.
Let me just tell you what he's done this week. I noticed on Tuesday morning as we were getting ready to leave for school that he was putting his folder in his backpack. It dawned on me that I had already done that the night before. So I ask him what he's doing. He said he had to put his paper in there. I proceed to ask him which paper he's talking about....because maybe I had missed one from the night before. He didn't answer me, so I said "Brody let me see the paper". He then blurts out "I got 3 cards pulled yesterday!!!!" The little heifer had hidden his behavior sheet from us so we wouldn't see how he misbehaved. He knew he would be punished, so he hid it, just hoping that we wouldn't ask if he had pulled any cards. So needless to say, he got a whipping....for misbehaving AND for hiding his sheet.
I guess that didn't phase him but just a little bit....cause that day at school he pulled 2 cards. I was working late, so Kevin called to tell me what he had done that day. So once again, he was punished. I decided to email his teacher and tell her that I would not tolerate that kind of behavior again, and I wanted her to send him to Coach Cobb. I told Brody what I had done, and that did the trick. He didn't pull any cards today. But tomorrow is Friday, and it's another day. I'm just hoping this is the worst he ever does, and I'm not forced to see his mugshot on America's Most Wanted.

New Year's Intentions

Most people have New Year's resolutions. Most are broken. So this year I have decided to go with a different notion....my "intentions" for the new year. Enjoy...

I intend....

1. to be a better Christian. I fail every day at it, but I do intend to read my Bible more, to pray more, to give more.

2. to be a better wife. I gripe and complain and do some of the nagging wife things. But most of the time I have to say I do OK. So I am going to work hard not to fuss at Kevin when he doesn't take the trash out when I want him to; or not fuss when he doesn't rinse that bowl out and put it in the sink, because I know it's difficult to turn the water on and open the dishwasher; or not get mad when he leaves 14 Mountain Dew cans on the end table, because apparently that cute little trash can that sits beside his chair is much too hard to reach.

3. to be a better mother. I intend not to lose my cool when my children flat out ignore me when I'm talking to them. And I sure don't want to have to whip them because how terrible a mother would I be to discipline my children in that way. (I might as well go ahead and rescind that statement because I promise you I will discipline my children the way me and Kevin see fit). I intend to hug them 100 times more than I already do, even when they may roll their eyes at me. I will tell them I love them 100 times more than I do because I don't ever want them to think otherwise.

4. to quit stepping on Coby. If he would just stay out of my way when I'm walking, I wouldn't even have to be typing this.

5. to try to find the positive in every situation. There are days when I feel like everything just couldn't get any worse. But then I remember, it most definitely could be worse. And that leads me to #6.

6. to be more thankful. Sometimes I feel like I wish I had this or that or I could go do this or that. So I want to be more thankful for the things that I do have, such as my job, or my house payment, or my truck payment.....cause it means I DO have a lot.

7. to be a better driver. I am very impatient on the road. Get out of my way or you will get run over. I can't stand it when people pull out in front of me and drive 20 mph or pull out and turn 10 yards down the road. I could just crush them. Just run my Tahoe up over their little bitty car and smush it. I wouldn't seriously do that.... :)

8. to wean myself off my Zoloft. HA! Who am I kidding? If I do that, then I will most certainly crush those tiny little cars.

9. to be a better friend. I vow to remember birthdays, send cards, texts, whatever to let them all know they are special to me.

10. use less sarcasm. Or do I?
